Happy Birthday!

I have been having such fun with Stampin Up! punches.
And there are so many new things you can do with them.
I was doin a Shoebox Swap with my fellow demonstrators and I just love the
119864-Round Tab and 118402 Scallop Trim Border Punches.

I wanted to make a Birthday Card.
I looked at the Round Tab punched out and if you cut it in half it looks like a
cute lil cupcake!
next,  with 118402 Scallop Trim Border Punch
punch the edge of  cardstock and again using the Round Tab punch~
punch out the "frosting" for your cupcake.

...next

assemble the pieces and using
118309 Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pak,
don't forget the "cherry" on the top!
finish it off with the SU stamp ~ 116978 Homemade
which coordinates with 118874    2 3/8" Scallop Circle.

If you would like to make this and more,
you might think about booking your own workshop.

Dad's Birthday Card

As promised, in June...Summer is so busy on the farm, but enough excuses...
Here is the card I made for my dad's 80th Birthday!

I'm ashamed to say I've been away sooo long!
I hope you will think it was worth the wait.

1. Cut a 7X6 1/4 inch piece of cardstock

2. Score 1 inch vertical lines beginning at the top, 3 inches and 4 inches from the left edge; repeat at the bottom.

3. Cut horizontally from scored lines 1 inch and vertically
4 1/4 inches. Make sure you don't cut over your scored lines. This will create a "hinge".
Below...you will see the "naked truth".

Cut a 6 3/4X6 inch piece of your choice of DSP.

I cut an opening in the DSP slightly larger than I cut from my cardstock. Starting only 3/4 inch from the edge of the paper but my opening is 3 1/4X4 1/2 inches.

Now adhere your DSP to your cardstock.
Fold card along scored lines so that left side is on top.

Stamp your choice of image and adhere to the front of card.

My opening is 3X4 1/4 inches...instead of the 2 3/4 X 4 1/4 inches in the diagram

here is the twist.

Now add your sentiment to the card back and
Voila!
Which also happens to be the SU stamp set I used.
I LOVE this set, don't you?

I  hope to bring you all kinds of new ideas in the next while.
Thank you for looking and come back soon!

Happy Stamping!

Dad's 80th Birthday!

If you see your parents on a regular basis you don't noticed them
aging. So when my dad was approaching 80 years old, I thought...WOW, where did the time go?
Course then you stop to think about your own age. He keeps telling me that it's hard to think of me as a...GRANDMOTHER, or "Manga" as the grandsons call me.

Over MEMORIAL WEEKEND, we had a small family gathering for my dad.
Wonderful weather, great food, fun watching the lil ones!
Just a great combination for a great MILESTONE!

My dad used to work for the GREAT NORTHERN RAILROAD...the mascot was "Rocky"  the Great Northern Goat!   All these years he has tried to be so "gruff"....

               THE OL' GOAT!

He would refer to himself as the Ol' Goat!
More of a family joke than truth! But this year, when ordering the cake I couldn't resist. Here is the finished cake...from Dairy Queen. Well I walked in, gave him a BIG (((hug))) and kiss and wished him "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!"   He started singing...."Happy Birthday to the Old Goat"

THEN I SHOWED HIM THE CAKE !!!
We both had a good laugh....<(*\/*)>

We dont stop playing cuz we get older....
We get older when we stop "playing"!

Age is a "Matter of Mind".....if you don't MIND, then it doesn't MATTER!!!

Come back soon, I'll show you the card I made for him. I LOVE how it turned out!

Thanks for visiting and Happy Stamping!~ Pixie

Accordian Fold with a TWIST!!!

I saw this technique in a book and just had to play with it!
I've been having such fun making these for different
occasions starting with my son and his wife's 4th Wedding Anniversary.

I was looking for something new
that I could do for a change...

WELL, I found it!

Some people refer to this as a Z-fold or Accordian fold.

I felt abit TWISTED that day, so this was perfect.

This is the FRONT...

It is my FIRST  attempt,
as you can see, it takes a twist in the middle. This way, you get to use TWO sentiments. One on the front and one...
on the BACK!!

I'm usually working under the wire....need a card like NOW!!
I find I work best UNDER PRESSURE.

later I will be posting more detailed directions for making this card.
If you would like to see first-hand how to create one for yourself

Life on the FARM....is FAR from LAID BACK!

I've been alittle absent to my blog...SPRING  is a busy time on the farm. We've been busy in the fields: planting oats and corn AND pickin' ROCKS!  EVERY YEAR....JUST LIKE CLOCKWORK!

The nice part is, that people in our area are looking for rocks, for landscaping, for water-damage control. Seems, as fast as we pick'em, THEY'RE GONE!!  We just leave the wagon out at the front of the lawn and come morning, POOF!  Most people will come to the house and ask to take them, but there was a woman in a skirt who just stopped and started loading them into her lil car and drove away!

Rocks...THE BEST CROP WE NEVER PLANTED!

I will be back to card making soon....

Hang in there!

Connect Retreat

Last week I was blessed to be part of a wonderful retreat.
I have been a part of this cause for the past 11 yrs...
THE CONNECT RETREAT for WOMEN SURVIVING CANCER.

11 years ago, 3 women started this retreat to bring women together
and let them know that their experiences could help one another.

Each year they come to
the CHRIST THE KING RETREAT CENTER in Buffalo MN

located on Buffalo Lake for 3 days of laughter, wonderful speakers, pampering, meeting new friends and re-connecting with old friends... and of course, terrific food!

Among the activities,
of course,
we have to include some cardmaking and crafts!

This year I enlisted the help of some friends...
Jan Carlson  (on the left)
and
the person who got me into Stampin' Up! in the first place...
Dave the Byrdman, here helping the ladies.

We had a very good turnout for the classes.
One of the projects was a basket
inspired by Gretchen Barron

This lil guy is just the cutest!

I had seen a picture of it on SCS but it was Jan that figured out how to make him, since I didn't have time to order the tutorial from Gretchen to arrive in time.
Jan is the Punch Art Queen!

Makes you want to get out your punches...doesn't it?!

Let me help you get started....contact me
There is still a few days left of Sale-a-Bration
and there's a month left of the Occasions Mini Catalog
and there is always the  Stampin' Up! Catalog

New Baby--Glassine Bag

My friend, Jan, just became a grandma again this past weekend!
So...
When I saw this lil topper on SCS by Ellen Kemper
I was inspired to try it out for this weeks
Glassine Bag Challenge.

It was all done with punches!

The 2 large circles are 1 3/4" the white one repunched to get the waist line

1 1/4" circle for the body, Heart to Heart for the leg, and ear.

Shortened Word Window for arm--5 standard hole punches for eyes and nose.

The curl is 1/2 inch circle offset around standard hole punch HOLE

The pacifier base is heart to heart punched offset
 above standard hole punch HOLE

The pacifier ring is standard hole punch
around smallest Crop-a-dile HOLE

The lil nose looks shiny, just a slight cold

Assembly advice: Do not put the pacifier too close to the nose

You Want Details...HERE THEY ARE!

As I told you, I made this card for my grandson Emmett.

Not having any dimensions to go by...
and only an hour before his birthday party...
I set to work.
The finished size was larger than I planned,
but to a 3 yr old...BIGGER IS BETTER!!!
I hope you will enjoy making this card, I DID!

I thought you would like to have the details on the Thomas Train card.
so...
HERE THEY ARE!

Products used are from Stampin' Up!
Here's what you will need to get started.

  • Circle Scissors - or something to cut circles

  • Punches- 1/2" circle, 3/4" circle, Full heart

  • Paper Cutter and Paper Snips

  • Cardstock: Blue, Bordering Blue, Real Red, Basic Black, Whisper White, Textured Gray, Really Rust, Creamy Caramel, YoYo Yellow

  • Ink: Classic Stamp pad-Close to Cocoa

  • White Gel Pen and Black Stampin Write.

  • Adhesives--SU Snail, Stampin Dimensionals
The face: textured gray~3 3/8 circle
(cut on the SU Circle Scissors)
2 white 3/4" circle and 2 blk 1/2" circle (eyes)
 2 pink 1/2" circle (cheeks)
1 blue 1/2"circle (nose), 1 3/8 circle punch for
 mouth (white)

The mouth: punch a  1 3/8" circle in
white then move your punch slightly
and punch again. You will have a
crescent for the mouth

We will move on to the main body of the train....
using Bright Blue cardstock (CS) (or color of your choice),
cut a piece 3 5/8" X 10 1/4" and round one end--I used the Circle Scissors set on the largest setting (6")

Now take Basic Black CS, for the very top of the train...4"X4 3/4"
round with Circle cutter (6"), move down slightly and cut again...
giving you a rounded strip 3/8" and save the rest for behind the face.

Smokestack: BB  1 1/2"X4" notched on one end, 3/8" from one end and 1/4" in on both sides of one end. Crosspiece of stack:
BB 1" X 2 1/2" rounded on both ends. Place the bottom edge of crosspiece at top of train.

Punch 2 yo-yo yellow 3/4" circles and 2 BB 1/2". With black on yellow circles, place one on either side of smokestack.
Take the BB that you saved from th e top and place it
2" from the top of train, trimming the sides to  3 5/8"

Let's keep moving...All Aboard?

We are now adding the Blue horizontal piece, 1 3/4"X4 7/8" to the top of Black CS (refer to pic) AND Creamy Caramel (I used To The Nines DSP) 1 1/2"X 4 5/8" round both ends with BB 3/4" circles at each end.

Real Red CS 4 1/4"X4 1/4" trim one end to
3 1/2"  refer to pic.

Using the same method as the Red CS...
take Really Rust CS 3"X 3 3/4".  trim 3 3/4" end
to 3 1/4"/ stamp with Close to Cocoa using (109294)
Sanded background stamp and sponge the edges with
the same ink. Cut Really Rust into 2 pieces 1" and 2"
and  adhere to the Red CS. Add 1/2" X 4" strips of
textured Tan CS for the tracks.

Add 1 3/4" X 3 3/4"  Red CS backed by 2" X4" BB CS -sponge the edges of the Red with Close to Cocoa ink.
Place this piece  at the top of the tracks, under the body of the train.

Chug-a-Chug-a....Woooowooo
Almost ready to roll outta the Station!

Attach the finished face to the card front as shown in the picture.
Don't forget to add some eyebrows and a glint to his eyes!

Punch 2 hearts from Whisper White CS or...
I used Shimmer White for extra sparkle. attach
with Stampin Dimensionals to the smokestack.

One last step...

Cut BB CS 3 1/2"X 12" and score at 3 5/8"
 and another BB CS 3 1/2" X 8 3/8". I attached
 with Sticky Strip for Extra-Durability,
able to withstand whatever a 3 yr old dishes out!
finished size:4 7/8" X 13 7/8"
yeah, you might have to "make" an
envelope too! ;o)

Easy...
 outta the Station.....
Now, FULL SPEED AHEAD!

WE HAVE A SCHEDULE TO KEEP!

Hope you had a fun ride...c'mon back soon!

Happy Stampin ~ Pixie

Emmett loves Thomas the Train!

My oldest grandson, Emmett, recently turned 3 yrs old on Feb 15th.
...where has the time gone.

Well, Emmett is a huge fan of trains! His favorite movie is the Polar Express. He can be heard throughout the day, at any given time saying...ALL ABOARD!!
For his 2nd birthday, I gave him a Thomas the Train set. When I returned from a recent road-trip to Mississippi by plane, the last leg of the trip from the Airport to Big Lake, MN was by Light Rail and the North Star commuter train. So...I brought him a passenger car for his train.

While browsing the web, I found a wonderful post on Splitcoast Stampers of a Thomas Train card.
I HAD TO MAKE IT!
I know you all will love it too, so...
HERE IT IS!

Stay tuned...
I will be posting the details so you can make this card yourself!
What lil boy wouldn't LOVE this train.

Coffee Tin with St Patrick Border

I love the International Coffee Tins!
but...
since I don't drink coffee, I have to rely on my friends to keep me supplied.
My daughters Fairy Godmother as she calls her is my best supplier.
So...
I decided to make her one for St Patricks Day!
She likes to keep her grocery coupons in it on her desk.
I hope, soon, to give her one for every holiday...
so I will be able to share with all of you along the way!

I wanted to use one of our new punches!
I love the new corner and border punches!

I used (118402) Scalloped Trim Border
I'm fascinated by the new design.
THEY FOLD FLAT!!!
There is a lock on the bottom so they fold up, compact!

It's the slickest thing. It  makes for easy storage, and transport.
Also available is:
  • 118870 Scallop Trim Corner          $ 9.95
  • 117649 Pinking Hearts Border       $15.95
  • 18072 Pinking Hearts Corner        $ 9.95

Wonderful Make & Takes!

Each month as a demonstrator,
our group takes the opportunity to come together
for an evening of fun, card swapping and tips to take our business forward.

Our upline, Dawn Olchefske, does a great deal of planning for these nights
and this month was no exception!
 We had a Demonstrator Fair!
Gayle and I focused on Marker Techniques,
as we had just finished a Marker Club with Jan.
Some months we even have guest speakers.
Our Speaker of the evening was Susan Auyer,
who came all the way from Michigan!
She was a Rising Star in 2008 and has a very business-minded attitude
 towards her Stampin' Up! business.
There were stampin techniques and business tips and last, but not least
and actually the FIRST order of the night...
MAKE & TAKES!!

Aren't these just the sweetest?
I am really into the Sweet Pea Felt Flowers.
They just add so much definition to a simple card.
(hint--SU Pop-up Glue Dots work marvelously to adhere the flowers)
Take a Pop-up Glue Dot and cut it...pop it on the back of the flower.
Use a whole dot for the largest of the flowers.

I would love to help you with all of your stampin needs. click here

SuperSTAR DIVAS Event

This past Saturday evening, what a fun nite!! I was invited to the home of my Stampin' Up! upline, Dawn Olchefske's, for supper with 3 other demonstrators. Dawn prepared a Taco Soup that was so scrumptious with all the fixins (sour cream, shredded cheese, guacamole', salsa, etc.) AND some wonderful Corn Bread! We ate to our hearts content and then on to some very cute stampin projects.  With some personal supplies in hand, (that Dawn had emailed us to bring) such as adhesives, scissors and our personal paper cutters (she supplied the rest)--we enjoyed an evening of food, fun and laughter.

This event was a reward for achieving goals during the quarter...there were 4 of us that night.
Gayle Klingelhoets, Ann Truenow, Bobbie Peterson and myself.

We received these wonderful bags with the Lovely Flowers Bundle/ level 3 hostess set. This includes  the Flower Lines stamp set/Lovely Lines Rub-ons/ and double sided Designer Series paper-Lovely Flowers. You can earn this Hostess Set by contacting me to hostess your own Stampin' Up! workshop.  click here

My wonderful hubby has joked that my stamping is an addiction...and I admit he's right! I told him that night...bye hon, I'm off to my SUPPORT GROUP!! It's so wonderful to have a group of women to encourage you to push yourself to new levels, inspire you with their creativeness and help you believe that YOU CAN!!

Card /Matching Frame

Added Touches

I've been stamping long enough now, that I see the natural progression of things. When I first started out, my cards were simple. One or two layers, simple stamping, no embellishments! Sometimes I like to go back to the more simple time...but tweak it some. Take a simple stamp set. In this case "I {Heart} Hearts" from the Occasions Mini Catalog and Whimsical Words from the Sale-a-Bration Catalog.

Even with the ribbon (white, colored with Certainly Celery Marker) and soft subtle button, it seemed to lack something.  So...I add some Morse Code as I call it. Dashes and dots! They just seem to add a little dimension. With some squiggles...Voila', you now have a card that is "eye catching" but not over-the-top.

Everyday Ideas

Everyday Ideas

I hear so many claim to "not have a creative bone in my body"!
I could never be a demonstrator, where do you get all of your ideas?
Believe it or not, if you look around you, there are so many things you can take your ideas from.

I have been looking at this frame, given to me by a dear friend, and thought...that would make a really cute card! If you take the time, look at ordinary objects, you can duplicate them. Even demonstrators "copy" from others. I would consider it a HUGE compliment if someone admired one of my creations enough to CASE it.
A CASE card I'm told is...Copy And Stamp Everything!

Cardstock: Almost Amethyst, Basic Black, Whisper White,
                  Going Gray textured
Classic Ink Stamp pad: Certainly Celery,Basic Black
Basic Black Stampin write marker, Soft Subtles buttons,
White Taffeta Ribbon colored with Certainly Celery Marker

I Heart Hearts

I {Heart} Hearts*

I am enjoying this stamp set ( I {Heart} Hearts*)
from the Occasions Mini Catalog so much.
I purchased it as a clear mount set...my first!
For so long I held back...it's all about resisting change.
Well, now I am hooked and it also coordinates with two of our punches:
(113693-Full Heart and 113694-Heart to Heart).
The sentiment is clear mount(119119) Whimsical Words, a Sale-a-Bration set.
I should add that both sets are available in wood mount also.

Yes! Change is wonderful! That's what living in Minnesota gives us...Change!
A change of seasons...if you dont like the weather--wait a few minutes, it will change. This is a wonderful time of year, Sale-a-bration(Jan 5-Mar 31)
AND the Occasions Mini Catalog (Jan 5-Apr 30)
It's like Christmas, after Christmas!

Stamps: I {Heart} Hearts, Whimsical Words
Cardstock:So Saffron, Mellow Moss, Tea Party DSP
Ink: Classic So Saffron, Big Shot Texturz plates-Background I
Punches: Designer Label, Ticket corner
Ribbon: 3/8" white taffeta  Glue Dots and Stampin' Dimensionals
